MONA (Museum of Old and New Art) is a world-renowned art collection that doesn’t take itself too seriously!
Australia’s largest privately owned gallery and museum is carved into a Headland in Berriedale on the banks of the river Derwent, approximately 13 kms from the Hobart CBD. This remarkable gallery is the playground and megaphone to businessman David Walsh. Experience art, exhibitions, live music, food, wine, bars, restaurants and cellar doors. MONA exhibits everything from ancient Egyptian funerary objects and modernist masterpieces to a word waterfall and a machine that mimics the human digestive system.
The best way to get to MONA is by ferry! The high-speed camouflaged ferry departs regularly from the Brooke Street Pier and takes approximately 25 minutes. Upon arrival at MONA, there are 99 steps. For those with mobility issues, please let the ferry staff know as there is also an accessible entrance via tunnel. Alternatively, you can drive to MONA yourself, parking is free but limited.
MONA is open 4 days per week, Fridays – Mondays, 10:00am – 5:00pm. Bookings are essential.
